Good morning from the dreary shores Prince Edward Island. It’s raining but this is our first day without sun in two weeks so I can’t really complain. It’s finally Spring on the island and the crocuses are out. I’m getting vitamin D and the SADs are fading fast. Thank God.
I’m not sleeping much lately. Training a puppy is exhausting but we’re getting the hang of it. Astra’s finally asleep at my feet. Her giant paws are twitching in as I write this. No doubt dreaming of eating kibble until she can’t move.
Going forward The Voice in Your Head is Mine won’t follow the same formula every week. It’s honestly too time-consuming (and tricky given NDAs and upcoming stories) to report on everything I’m watching/reading/enjoying in a week and simultaneously updating folks about my work. I’ve got a lot cooking but nothing much I’m ready to talk about in depth juuust yet. A lot of what I’m reading and watching right now is related to the work. So, y’know, I must keep quiet for the time being.
So this is just a short letter! The goal today is to let you know that I’m working a variety of essays about the creative process, in-depth posts about some of the stories I told in my year away, and other stuff that I’m not ready to reveal just yet. For more on the approach to the newsletter here Garth Brooks.
I just wanted to let you know that I’m committed to using this space and keeping in touch with the folks who subscribe this letter. I want to make sure everything I send is worth your time. Which I know is ironic when I’m sending what amounts to a nothing update. Well, too bad! This is my letter! You signed up for this and now you’re trapped here with me!
All that being said!
I’m finding a lot to love in this new season of SUCCESSION. The last episode really surprised me in the best way possible and I’m glad they’re not pulling their punches in the final season.
I’ve yet to dive into BARRY season 4 but it’s probably my most anticipated series of the year. I’m really in awe of how it’s evolved over three seasons. Season 1 Barry feels like a comedy punctured by moments of darkness. Season 3 felt like a bleak examination of what it means to be a killer punctured by moments of pitch-black comedy. Whatever the hell’s about to happen - I know we’re in good hands with Bill Hader directing every episode - so bring it on!

Vox wrote an incredibly detailed story about the disappearance of the Colorado River. It’s a depressing but necessary read.
Also if you read the Vox article and feel further compelled to imagine the future of water in America - I highly recommend Paolo Bacigalupi’s excellent sci-fi novel The Water Knife.
The WGA (Writer’s Guild of America) just voted to go on strike. Over the next few months, there’s probably going to be a lot of misinformation floating around about what they’re fighting for. I found this video to be really informative.
Peace
Until next week!
